The school was established in June 2001, formerly known as Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University. In January 2020, it was renamed Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University. It is approved by the Ministry of Education, managed by the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, organized by the People’s Government of Ningbo, and Zhejiang University Support full-time public general undergraduate colleges and universities. The school is located in Ningbo Higher Education Park, covering an area of about 1,200 acres.
